ANNUAL PARISH HAYRACK RIDE, BONFIRE AND POTLUCK
Holy Cross Parish’s annual Fall Hayrack Ride, Bonfire and Potluck will be held at Santa’s Woods on Saturday, October 23rd at 6:00 PM. Santa’s Woods is located between Omaha and Blair on Blair High Road, and is a working farm. The old fashioned hayrack ride will cover the entire farm, with participants enjoying the fall colors and the wildlife. They will return to a roaring bonfire at their private picnic site where they will enjoy a delicious potluck meal, and an opportunity to roast hot dogs and marshmallows in an open fire. While this is not a parish fund raiser, there will be a small charge to cover the cost of the facility. This is a fun family event not to be missed!
SUMMER PARISH PICNIC
The Sisters of Holy Cross, the Women’s Group of Holy Cross Anglican Church, sponsored the first annual Summer Parish Picnic at Halleck Park in Papillion on Sunday, August 1st. Turn out was excellent, and everyone had a good time. The covered pavilion was cool with a light breeze blowing through, and the food was delicious. Hamburgers and hotdogs were grilled, and the variety of sides and drinks were too numerous to mention. The kids enjoyed the playground equipment while the teens - and some adults - cooled down with water balloon fights.
BISHOP GROTE VISITS HOLY CROSS PARISH
Bishop Royal Grote of the Reformed Episcopal Diocese of Mid-America visited Holy Cross Parish on Palm Sunday, March 28th. This was his first visit to the parish’s new chapel and parish hall. The chapel was full for his visit and five were confirmed - three adults and two teens. A reception and luncheon followed Services. In honor of the bishop’s visit and of those confirmed. In 2009, Bishop Grote celebrated the 25th anniversary of his episcopate.
BISHOP TO VISIT MARCH 28th
Bishop Royal U. Grote of the Diocese of Mid-America will visit Holy Cross Anglican Church on Palm Sunday, March 28th. This will be his third visit to the parish. In 2009, Bishop Grote celebrated the 25th anniversary of his consecration to the episcopate.
On Palm Sunday Bishop Grote will administer the sacrament of Confirmation and will preach at the 10:00 AM celebration of the Holy Communion. Immediately after Services a potluck luncheon will be held in the parish hall in honor of the bishop’s visit and of those confirmed. The public is cordially invited to attend and to meet Bishop Grote.

OUR NEW CHURCH FACILITY
On Tuesday, November 10th, 2009, Holy Cross parish moved from the Holiday Inn Express where it had worshipped for more than two years to its own church facility, located at 7545 Main Street in Ralston, at Hillcrest Landing.
The church has a spacious traditional chapel, and a bright, cheerful and modern parish hall, with plenty of parking near the door - including covered parking! Everything is conveniently located on one floor so there are no stairs to climb. Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday at 10:00 AM, and everyone is welcome. See you there!
INAUGURAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
ANGLICAN CHURCH IN NORTH AMERICA
The inaugural assembly (synod) of the Anglican Church in North America was held from June 22-25, 2009, in Bedford, Texas, at St. Vincent’s Cathedral, the cathedral church of the Diocese of Ft. Worth. The Anglican Church in North America is the new orthodox province of the Anglican Communion in North America. A constitution and set of canons were adopted, and Bishop Robert Duncan of the Diocese of Pittsburgh was elected Archbishop.
In recent years hundreds of congregations have left the Episcopal Church, including four entire dioceses - the dioceses of Ft. Worth, Pittsburgh, Quincy and San Joaquin. In 2007, these congregations and dioceses, along with organizations such as the Anglican Mission in the America’s (AMIA), the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA), and Forward in Faith, joined together with the Reformed Episcopal Church in an organization called the Common Cause Partners. Under the guidance of the Primate’s Council of the Anglican Communion, the Common Cause Partners then began the work of bringing into being a new orthodox province of the Anglican Communion in North America. After much preparatory work and a successful inaugural synod, the Anglican Church in North America is now a reality!
Announcing to the world that he is now Archbishop of the newly formed Anglican Church in North America, The Most Rev. Robert Duncan of Pittsburgh told a press conference that the Church he now leads will “reunite a significant portion of our Anglican Church family here in North America. We are uniting 700 congregations and 28 dioceses, and more importantly committed Anglican believers in the north and in the south, on the west coast and the east coast. We are oriented toward a hopeful future again.” Archbishop Duncan drew a wide net saying that God isn’t just bringing Anglican Christians together, “across the church people are re-embracing Scripture’s authority. Christians are rediscovering the grace of our 2,000 year-old tradition.”
Many primates and leading bishops of the Anglican Communion were in attendance at the inaugural assembly and the Anglican Church in North America has already been recognized by the Primate’s Council of the Anglican Communion. The Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) held in the summer of 2008, in Jerusalem, was the first step in the New Reformation that is renewing Anglicanism. The second step was the establishment of the Anglican Church in North America; and the third step followed immediately upon the inaugural synod in Bedford, Texas, with the organizational meeting of the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans in Westminster, England. The Westminster meeting, sponsored by the Primate’s Council, brought together some 1,600 clergy and laity, including many bishops, and organizations such as Forward in Faith UK, with the goal of renewing the Church of England.
There were important ecumenical representatives at the inaugural assembly as well. The Vatican sent a bishop to represent Pope Benedict XVI, and the Eastern Orthodox Church was represented by Archbishop Jonah, primate of the Orthodox Church in America. Archbishop Jonah addressed the assembly for 45 minutes and called for “full intercommunion” with the Anglican Church in North America. “What will it take,” he asked, “for true ecumenical reconciliation? That is what I am seeking by being with you today.” Archbishop Jonah said, “I come to you as the successor of [St.] Tikhon...with the same openness, the same invitation, the same love and desire to unify Anglicanism, and orthodoxy.”
Archbishop Duncan told the synod that the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Pittsburgh was one of his staunchest allies. “We have a great missionary partnership. There is more that unites us than separates us.” Archbishop Duncan said that the Roman Catholic archbishop of Pittsburgh called him to reassure him that in the eventuality of there being a loss of property due to lawsuits, his people will never be without a place to worship.
The Anglican Church in North America is a federation of eight Anglican jurisdictions and organizations including the Reformed Episcopal Church, bringing together 28 dioceses, more than 700 local congregations and more than 800 clergy. It is already larger than twelve of the thirty eight provinces of the Anglican Communion, including the Churches of Scotland and Wales. Holy Cross Anglican Church in Omaha is the only parish of the Anglican Church in North America in the state of Nebraska.](News_files/shapeimage_3.png)
